01. Site Survey & Client Requirements
The project is set within a multi-tier hillside estate overlooking a broad mountain valley. The upper level features classical columns and balustrades, while the lower terrace contains the swimming pool and a separate elevated concrete platform intended for a panoramic pavilion.
- Hillside wind and dust: The open pool was exposed to valley gusts, dry soil and airborne debris.
- Panoramic view preservation: The pool enclosure needed to remain below 1.8 m so the upper terrace retained open mountain views.
- Large open-water requirement: The owner wanted more than 8 m of central pool opening when the enclosure retracted.
- Separate observation lounge: A permanent 3.5 m × 3.5 m pavilion was required on the elevated side platform.
- Unified architectural language: Both structures needed matching dark-charcoal aluminum framing.
02. Conceptual Design & 3D BIM Modelling
SUNRAY developed a coordinated dual-structure solution: a low-profile faceted retractable pool enclosure plus a permanent single-slope glazed pavilion.
2.1 Low-Profile Pool Enclosure & View Preservation
The retractable enclosure rises to only 1,800 mm, keeping the structure below the primary upper-terrace sightlines while still protecting the pool from dust, wind and debris.
2.2 Six-Bay 3+3 Bi-Parting Kinematics
The six modules split at the center and telescope toward opposite ends. When fully retracted, they open an 8,048 mm clear central span over the pool.
2.3 Freestanding 3.5m × 3.5m Glazed Pavilion
The adjacent pavilion creates an all-weather observation lounge with floor-to-ceiling glazing, a 1,200 mm sliding-glass entrance and a single-slope roof rising from 2,500 mm to 3,000 mm.
03. Shop Drawings & Dimensional Coordination
Production drawings coordinated both structures before fabrication, including the pool enclosure track geometry, module breakdown and the pavilion's roof slope and door openings.
3.1 Retractable Pool Enclosure
- Total track baseline: 12,200 mm
- Outer frame width: 5,390 mm
- Track center-to-center gauge: 5,130 mm
- Net pool-water width: 4,530 mm
- Clear central opening: 8,048 mm
- Maximum crown height: 1,800 mm
- End walkway clearances: 1,449 mm and 1,000 mm
- Module sequence: 2,012 / 2,012 / 2,077 / 2,077 / 2,012 / 2,012 mm
3.2 Terrace Glazed Pavilion
- Plan footprint: 3,500 × 3,500 mm
- Rear high-wall elevation: 3,000 mm
- Front low-eave elevation: 2,500 mm
- Center sliding-door clear opening: 1,200 mm
- Vertical clear glass transom: 1,000 mm
- Intermediate mullion height: 2,180 mm
- Sliding sash height: 2,300 mm
04. Precision Manufacturing & Factory Quality Control
Manufacturing focused on multi-track telescopic profiles, pavilion structural members, drainage details and accurate modular interfaces across both structures.
4.1 Multi-Cavity Aluminum Tracks & Profiles
The project source documents heavy-gauge 6063-T6 aluminum multi-track floor sills, faceted arch members and pavilion box sections with internal reinforcement chambers.
4.2 CNC Machining
Automated CNC machining was used for mounting pockets, roller cavities and drainage slots required by the moving pool enclosure system.
4.3 Dark Charcoal Architectural Finish
Both structures received the same dark charcoal fluorocarbon finish to create a unified visual language against the light limestone terraces.
05. 1:1 Factory Trial Pre-Assembly & Fit Verification
Before shipment, SUNRAY completed trial assembly of both the retractable pool enclosure and the permanent terrace pavilion.
5.1 Pool Enclosure Alignment & Kinematic Test
- Track parallelism and diagonal squareness checked across the 12.20 m baseline and 5.39 m width.
- All six modules tested for smooth center-split movement without binding.
- Synchronized electric drives tested through repeated operating cycles.
- The project source records a complete opening / closing cycle of approximately two minutes.
5.2 Pavilion Frame Trial Assembly
- 3,500 × 3,500 mm frame skeleton assembled in the factory.
- Sliding-door track alignment verified.
- Corner post squareness checked.
- Single-slope roof pitch alignment verified before packing.
06. Export Packaging & Logistics
After factory verification, the pool enclosure modules, guide tracks, pavilion frame sections and glazing components were protected for international transport to Canada.
- Aluminum profiles wrapped with protective foam, corner guards and stretch film.
- Disassembled modules, pavilion sections and glazing packed into reinforced export plywood crates.
- Crates secured for ocean and overland freight to the Canadian project site.
07. On-Site Installation in Canada
The prefabricated systems were installed on separate terrace levels of the hillside estate under professional site supervision.
7.1 Pool Track Anchoring & Laser Leveling
The 12,200 mm guide tracks were anchored into the lower concrete pool terrace and laser-leveled to maintain coplanar, parallel alignment across the 5,130 mm rail gauge.
7.2 Pool Enclosure Module Assembly
The six pre-machined modules were assembled on the tracks and fitted with the specified UV-resistant polycarbonate panels.
7.3 Pavilion Construction on Elevated Platform
The 3.5 m × 3.5 m pavilion frame was fixed to the elevated concrete platform, followed by the single-slope glazed roof and 1,200 mm sliding-glass entrance.
7.4 Motor Wiring & Calibration
The pool enclosure drive units were connected to the control system and calibrated for synchronized remote-controlled bi-parting operation.
08. Final Handover & Residential Use
The completed project delivers two complementary outdoor living spaces: a convertible protected pool zone and a permanent panoramic observation pavilion.
- Dust and debris protection: The closed pool enclosure reduces windblown hillside dust and leaves entering the water.
- Panoramic view preservation: The 1,800 mm low-profile crown keeps the valley outlook open from the upper terrace.
- Large open-sky pool mode: Retraction creates an 8,048 mm central open-water span.
- Dedicated observation lounge: The 3.5 m pavilion provides a sheltered setting for coffee, reading and poolside relaxation.
- Unified architecture: Matching dark-charcoal frames visually connect both structures across the terraced estate.
09. Application Scenarios
The same dual-structure concept can be adapted to high-end residential and hospitality sites that need both a retractable pool enclosure and a permanent glazed leisure pavilion.
- Hillside and mountain-view luxury villas
- Multi-level residential estates with pools and observation decks
- Resort-scale private recreation zones
- Properties requiring coordinated retractable and fixed outdoor glass structures
