In Kirghizia, a mountainous Central Asian country with four distinct seasons, we created a multifunctional sunroom that is both beautiful and functional. With harsh, snowy winters and sunny summers, the owner wanted a space that could be used comfortably year-round, enjoying natural light and protection from weather extremes, as well as for relaxation, meeting guests, and planting greenery. The project was sited on the courtyard side of the house, adjacent to the main building, on a site that was originally level, but needed to be stabilized against seasonal permafrost. The surrounding environment is open and has excellent lighting conditions, but the design needs to focus on wind and snow protection in winter and ventilation and insulation in summer. We successfully implemented an innovative sliding skylight project in the roof patio area of a modern house in Singapore, solving the problem of insufficient light and limited ventilation of a traditional patio. With Singapore's unique tropical climate, the project needed to meet the requirements of high strength waterproofing, intelligent control and aesthetic design. At the initial stage of the project, we noticed that the original fixed skylight structure had obvious shortcomings: low utilization of natural light, poor air circulation, and inability to adapt to changing climatic conditions.
