Thailand Resort Hotel Aluminum Windows, Sliding Doors & Glass Balustrades Project

Project Overview & Key Specifications

SUNRAY engineered and fabricated an architectural aluminum windows, sliding doors and glass balustrade package for an approximately 800 m² boutique resort hotel in Thailand. The project was developed for a tropical monsoon environment where heavy rain, high humidity, intense UV exposure and guest comfort placed demanding requirements on drainage, sealing, corrosion resistance and acoustic performance.

The centerpiece of the facade package is the D-8 six-panel bi-parting sliding glass door, measuring 6,750 mm wide × 3,602 mm high with a 161 mm deep three-track threshold system.

01. Site Survey & Client Requirements

The hotel was under active structural construction when the facade package was coordinated. The rough openings consisted of block masonry walls, reinforced concrete elements and steel roof framing, so the door and window systems had to be dimensioned for ongoing architectural interfaces.

  • Monsoon rainfall: Large openings required reliable drainage and sealing against wind-driven tropical rain.
  • High humidity: Finishes, gaskets and hardware needed to remain stable in a persistently humid environment.
  • Acoustic comfort: Guestroom openings required better isolation from heavy rain noise and resort activity.
  • Large panoramic openings: The design needed wide floor-to-ceiling glazed access between guestrooms and outdoor terraces.
  • Balcony safety: Elevated guest areas required structural glass balustrades without sacrificing open views.

02. Shop Drawings & Large-Span Door Coordination

Approved production drawing set No. P-4 for client Arm established the dimensional basis for manufacturing the hotel door and window systems.

2.1 D-8 Six-Panel Bi-Parting Sliding Door

  • Overall width: 6,750 mm
  • Overall height: 3,602 mm
  • Threshold depth: 161 mm
  • Panel configuration: 6 panels
  • Opening logic: 3 panels slide left and 3 panels slide right
  • Frame mounting offset: 30 mm
  • Three-track threshold for bi-parting movement

2.2 Clerestory & Glass Ceiling Interfaces

The shop drawings also coordinate upper glass transoms and ceiling-line interfaces so the door and window assemblies align with the surrounding architecture and maintain continuous weather sealing.

03. Precision Manufacturing & Factory Quality Control

Manufacturing focused on dimensional consistency, glazing quality, corrosion resistance and efficient site assembly for the tropical hospitality environment.

  • 6063-T5 aluminum profiles were precision-cut and machined for door, window and balustrade assemblies.
  • Sliding sashes were factory-glazed with double-glazed tempered units and fitted with EPDM sealing components.
  • Finished frames and glazed sashes were wrapped and organized for protected transport.
  • Balustrade posts, handrails and base channels were pre-machined and pre-drilled to reduce site fabrication.

04. 1:1 Factory Trial Assembly & Sliding Commissioning

Before export, SUNRAY carried out a full-scale trial assembly and operational test of the large D-8 sliding-door system.

4.1Frame alignment: The 6.75 m wide frame was checked for level, plumb and track alignment.

4.2Sliding performance: Roller carriages were tested under the weight of the glazed door panels.

4.3Locking system: Concealed multi-point locking hardware was checked for correct engagement.

4.4Anti-lift protection: Safety blocks and track-retention components were inspected before shipment.

05. Export Packaging & Logistics

The completed frames, glazed sashes, balustrade assemblies and hardware were packed for international transport to Thailand.

  • Heavy-duty fumigated plywood crates were used for major frame and glass components.
  • Waterproof sheeting, timber blocking and external strapping protected the contents during transport.
  • The crates were loaded and secured for overland and container logistics.

06. On-Site Installation in Thailand

After arrival at the resort site, the prefabricated systems were installed into prepared openings and calibrated for final operation.

  • Outer frames were leveled within masonry openings and mechanically anchored.
  • Perimeter gaps were filled and sealed for weather protection.
  • Sliding sashes were installed on their running tracks and adjusted for smooth bi-parting movement.
  • Glass balustrades were assembled on second-floor balconies using prefabricated posts, channels and safety-glass panels.
  • Final commissioning included roller-height and lock-engagement adjustment.

07. Final Handover & Operational Results

Following sealing, hardware adjustment and final cleaning, the door, window and balustrade package was handed over for hotel operation.

  • Rain management: EPDM seals and threshold drainage were designed to manage tropical rainfall around large sliding openings.
  • Guest comfort: Double glazing and tight frame interfaces support improved acoustic and thermal performance compared with basic single-glazed openings.
  • Indoor-outdoor connection: The 6.75 m bi-parting doors create a large central opening between guest spaces and terraces.
  • Balcony safety: Laminated glass balustrades provide a transparent protective barrier at elevated guest areas.
  • Architectural consistency: The dark aluminum framing creates a unified facade language across doors, windows and balcony edges.

08. Application Scenarios

The same system approach can be adapted to other hospitality and residential projects requiring wide glazed openings, strong rain management and visually light safety barriers.

  • Tropical resort hotels and boutique lodges
  • Luxury villas and penthouses
  • Commercial restaurants and sky lounges
  • Coastal hospitality projects requiring corrosion-resistant aluminum systems

  • The project included large-span sliding glass doors, window and clerestory assemblies, and structural glass balustrades for an approximately 800 m² boutique resort hotel.

  • The D-8 unit is a 6-panel bi-parting sliding door measuring 6,750 mm wide × 3,602 mm high. It uses a 3-track threshold with a 161 mm frame depth and opens from the center using a 3+3 panel arrangement.

  • The source design uses EPDM compression gaskets, concealed drainage channels and exterior weep points to manage wind-driven rain and high seasonal rainfall.

  • The project source specifies 6063-T5 aluminum profiles with a durable architectural finish, double-glazed tempered safety glass units with Low-E solar control, and stainless-steel roller hardware.
