01. Site Survey & Client Requirements
The project site is a private backyard pool surrounded by concrete coping, artificial turf, stepping stones and mature trees. The homeowner wanted a discreet enclosure that could protect the pool without dominating the garden landscape.
- Cold-season exposure: The source describes severe Canadian winter freezes, snow and ice as key design concerns.
- Short outdoor swimming season: The pool had limited comfortable use outside the summer period.
- Heavy tree debris: Leaves, pine needles and airborne debris created recurring cleaning and maintenance work.
- Full summer opening: The homeowner required the enclosure to retract completely away from the water.
- Low visual profile: The total enclosure height was kept at 600 mm to preserve backyard sightlines.
02. Conceptual Design & 3D Modelling
SUNRAY developed a four-bay telescopic enclosure with a compact curved cross-section and a dedicated off-pool parking zone.
2.1 Low-Profile Curved Geometry
The cross-section rises only 600 mm above the pool perimeter, combining a 400 mm straight side wall with a 200 mm curved roof rise. The low silhouette keeps the enclosure visually unobtrusive within the residential garden.
2.2 Four-Bay Cascading Telescopic Movement
The four progressively sized modules nest into one another on parallel stepped tracks, creating a compact retracted stack.
2.3 Extended Parking Track for Full Pool Clearance
A 4,245 mm track extension continues beyond the pool coping so the complete nested module stack can move clear of the 8,420 mm pool basin.
03. Shop Drawings & Dimensional Coordination
Approved engineering drawings defined the enclosure envelope, track extension, module nesting length and low-profile cross-section before fabrication.
- Total track baseline: 12,665 mm
- Pool basin coverage: 8,420 mm
- Extended rear parking track: 4,245 mm
- Overall transverse width: 3,100 mm
- Overall structural height: 600 mm
- Straight side-wall height: 400 mm
- Curved roof rise: 200 mm
- Four telescoping modules with a total nested footprint of 4,245 mm
04. Precision Manufacturing & Factory Quality Control
Manufacturing focused on repeatable curved geometry, accurate guide-track machining and durable exterior finishing for the cold-climate residential application.
4.1 CNC Profile Machining
The 6063-T5 aluminum frame and base members were cut, notched and milled on CNC equipment according to the approved project dimensions.
4.2 Curved Rail & Track Fabrication
Curved roof members and low-profile guide-track components were formed to controlled radii so the four modules could nest without interference.
4.3 Drainage & Connection Processing
Drainage slots, guide-roller cavities and interlocking connection details were machined before final architectural coating and assembly.
05. 1:1 Factory Trial Pre-Assembly & Kinematic Testing
Before export, SUNRAY carried out a full-scale 1:1 pre-assembly of the complete 12.665 m system to verify geometry and powered operation.
5.1 Track Alignment & Module Nesting
- Track parallelism and diagonal squareness were checked across the complete baseline.
- The four curved modules were assembled in sequence to verify nesting clearances and smooth travel.
- The project source records a track-alignment tolerance check of approximately ±1.0 mm during factory setup.
5.2 Motorized Drive & Control Testing
- The four waterproof electric motors were synchronized and cycle-tested.
- Wireless remote control, wall-switch control and smartphone-app operation were checked.
- EPDM sweep-seal compression between overlapping modules was inspected before packing.
06. Export Packaging & Logistics
After trial assembly, the system was dismantled and packed for international shipment to Canada.
- Curved aluminum modules, ground tracks, polycarbonate panels and motor components were separated and protected.
- Components were cushioned with foam and stretch film before placement in reinforced export plywood crates.
- The crates were strapped to a transport truck for onward containerized ocean shipment.
07. On-Site Installation in Canada
Following delivery, the enclosure was assembled at the residence using the prepared poolside track layout and prefabricated modules.
7.1 Ground Track Installation & Laser Leveling
The 12,665 mm guide-track system was positioned along the pool perimeter and extended 4,245 mm beyond the basin for the parking zone. Track alignment was checked before module installation.
7.2 Module Installation & Polycarbonate Infill
The pre-machined curved aluminum frames were installed on the tracks and fitted with the solid polycarbonate panels and continuous EPDM seals described in the project source.
7.3 Motor Synchronization & Final Commissioning
The four motors were connected and synchronized, followed by final checks of opening/closing movement and the documented remote, wall-switch and mobile-app controls.
08. Final Handover & Residential Operation
The completed low-profile pool enclosure was handed over as a convertible weather-protection system that can fully cover the pool or retract beyond the water when open-air use is preferred.
- Full pool clearance: The four modules park on the 4,245 mm extended track, leaving the full basin open.
- Debris protection: The closed enclosure reduces direct entry of leaves, needles, dust and insects.
- Low-profile integration: The 600 mm structure remains visually discreet within the garden.
- Smart operation: The project source documents remote, wall-switch and smartphone control.
- Cold-climate use: The source case study presents the enclosure as a winter-protection and season-extension solution for the Canadian residential pool.
09. Application Scenarios
The same low-profile telescopic design approach can be adapted to other projects where owners need pool protection without a full-height permanent enclosure.
- Cold-climate residential in-ground pools
- Backyard pools surrounded by heavy tree canopy
- Low-profile luxury villa pool projects
- Residential pools requiring full off-pool module parking
