01. Site Survey & Client Requirements
The project site is located in the rear courtyard of a private villa in Georgia. The pool was positioned beside an existing irregular stone terrace, perimeter walls and a neighboring garage structure, so the enclosure had to fit a defined residential footprint without disrupting normal courtyard circulation.
- Winter climate exposure: The client required a more protective enclosure for periods of freezing temperatures and seasonal snow.
- Pool heat and evaporation control: The open pool lost heat rapidly during cold periods, limiting the practical swimming season.
- Leaves and garden debris: Surrounding vegetation created recurring cleaning and filtration work.
- Full summer opening: The enclosure needed to retract completely clear of the pool rather than leave permanent roof modules over the water.
02. Conceptual Design: Four-Segment Telescopic Pool Enclosure
SUNRAY developed a low-profile mansard-style telescopic enclosure that balances residential appearance, usable swimming headroom and winter weather protection.
2.1 Mansard Roof Geometry
The cross-section uses near-vertical lower walls, an angled transition facet and a low-slope upper roof plane, reaching a maximum height of 2,300 mm. This profile preserves headroom close to the pool edge while creating sloped surfaces that support snow shedding.
2.2 Four Nesting Modules
The 10.2 m enclosure is divided into four progressively sized telescoping sections. Each module has a nominal pitch of 2,601 mm and is designed to nest inside the adjacent larger module.
2.3 Full Off-Pool Parking
A 2,601 mm extended track section continues beyond the pool basin so the four modules can stack outside the active water area, restoring a fully open pool zone in warm weather.
03. Shop Drawings & Dimensional Coordination
Approved production drawing No. 25-10-14 for client RUSLAN established the fabrication dimensions, module grid, track extension and vertical clearances used for manufacturing.
- Overall enclosure length: 10,200 mm
- Overall width: 4,900 mm
- Four telescoping modules
- Module pitch: 2,601 mm each
- Extended track / parking zone: 2,601 mm
- Total track baseline: 12,801 mm
- Maximum ridge height: 2,300 mm
- Base guide-track width: 400 mm
- Lower vertical mullion clear height: 1,358 mm
- Intermediate transition height: 1,621 mm
- Faceted roof transition angle: 165°
04. Precision Manufacturing & Material Quality Control
The production stage focused on repeatable module geometry, track accuracy and corrosion-resistant components suitable for a humid swimming-pool environment.
4.1 Aluminum Frame Processing
The project source specifies 6061-T6 aluminum structural profiles. Frame components were cut and machined for the nested module geometry and internal connections.
4.2 Multi-Channel Track Fabrication
The four-channel base-track system incorporates stainless steel guide rails and drainage detailing. The 400 mm wide track assembly supports independent travel paths for the four telescoping modules.
4.3 Polycarbonate Infill & Weather Sealing
Solid polycarbonate panels were used for the transparent enclosure, together with continuous EPDM seals between overlapping modules. The source documentation describes UV-protective glazing and a low-maintenance finish intended for long-term outdoor exposure.
05. 1:1 Factory Trial Pre-Assembly & Kinematic Testing
Before export, SUNRAY completed a full-scale 1:1 trial assembly of the 10.2 m enclosure on factory test tracks.
- 1Portal alignment: The four structural frames were checked for consistent geometry and cross-diagonal squareness.
- 2Nesting clearance: The modules were assembled together to confirm that each section could telescope without mechanical interference.
- 3Sliding test: Repeated opening and closing checks were carried out on the factory tracks.
- 4Seal contact: EPDM sweep seals were inspected along the overlapping module interfaces.
06. Export Packaging & Logistics
After pre-assembly, the system was disassembled into transportable modules and packed for international delivery to Georgia.
- Structural frames, tracks, hardware and polycarbonate panels were separated and protected for shipment.
- Components were cushioned with foam and protective wrapping before placement in reinforced export plywood cases.
- The packed crates were secured for long-haul road transport.
07. Final Handover & Residential Operation
Following modular on-site assembly by the local contractor team using SUNRAY's pre-drilled components and engineering guidance, the telescopic pool enclosure was commissioned for residential use.
The completed system allows the homeowner to keep the pool enclosed during cold or wet weather and retract the modules beyond the pool edge when an open-air swimming environment is preferred.
08. Real-World Winter Snow Validation
Post-installation winter footage supplied with the project material shows the enclosure operating through heavy snow conditions in Georgia. This real-world observation provides useful project evidence beyond renderings and factory testing.
- Snow accumulation: The enclosure remained standing under visible roof snow accumulation.
- Sloped roof behavior: The faceted mansard roof provided inclined surfaces that support natural snow shedding.
- Frame condition: The project source reports no visible sagging or frame distortion during the documented winter event.
- Track recovery: The source states that the sliding system remained usable after snow was cleared from the track perimeter.
Project Outcome
This project demonstrates how a compact four-segment telescopic pool enclosure can combine residential aesthetics, full summer opening, winter weather protection and factory-tested modular construction in a constrained villa courtyard.
The strongest proof points in this case are the approved production drawing, full-scale factory pre-assembly and post-installation winter footage, which together document the project from design through real-world use.
