01. Site Survey & Client Requirements
The project site is a poolside terrace within a modern stone-clad villa in Qatar. The sunroom footprint had to coordinate with the existing travertine pool deck, composite terrace, underground services and finished pool edge.
- Extreme summer heat: The pavilion was intended to create a more usable air-conditioned poolside environment during hot weather.
- Fine sand and dust: The enclosure required continuous seals and controlled door interfaces to reduce dust entry.
- Direct pool access: The owner wanted the main glazed elevation to open toward the pool rather than form a visually closed room.
- Outdoor cooking: The layout needed space for a stainless-steel kitchen, cooking equipment and exhaust ventilation.
- Compact footprint: The pavilion had to fit precisely between the villa facade, pool and site boundary conditions.
02. Conceptual Design & 3D Modelling
SUNRAY developed a contemporary cubic pavilion that matches the modern villa architecture while creating a shaded transition between the conditioned interior and the pool terrace.
2.1 Cubic Pavilion with Integrated Pergola
The main enclosed zone is paired with a 950 mm louvered entrance pergola, forming a shaded threshold between the sunroom and the pool deck.
2.2 Panoramic Sliding Glass Facade
Large-format sliding glass panels face the pool, allowing the indoor lounge and dining space to open toward the exterior when conditions are suitable.
2.3 Solar Shading & Climate Control
Horizontal louvers provide passive shading at the entrance, while motorized skylights and split-system air-conditioning support active ventilation and cooling.
03. Shop Drawings & Dimensional Coordination
Approved production drawing set No. 25-06-12 established the final envelope, facade bay divisions, roof-grid spacing and skylight positions before fabrication.
- Overall length: 6,530 mm
- Overall width: 4,720 mm
- Overall height: 3,180 mm
- Enclosed pavilion footprint: 5,580 mm × 3,870 mm
- Pergola footprint: 950 mm × 3,870 mm
- Fixed corner glass bay: 2,260 mm wide
- Central sliding-door modules: 2 × 2,690 mm
- Dedicated access door: 800 mm
- Main portal posts: 350 mm
- Four roof skylight openings integrated into the roof grid
04. Precision Manufacturing & Factory Quality Control
Manufacturing focused on dimensional accuracy, durable architectural finish, glazing preparation and modular site assembly.
4.1 Structural Aluminum Fabrication
The primary frame was produced from 6063-T5 aluminum profiles, including heavy architectural portal posts and roof beams.
4.2 Dark-Bronze Architectural Finish
The visible aluminum components received a dark-bronze fluorocarbon finish to coordinate with the villa and support outdoor exposure.
4.3 Glazing, Gaskets & Drainage Preparation
Frame channels were prepared for insulated glazing, continuous EPDM compression seals and internal drainage paths.
05. 1:1 Factory Trial Pre-Assembly & Roof Grid Verification
Before shipment, SUNRAY completed a full-scale 1:1 factory trial assembly of the 6.53 m × 4.72 m pavilion.
5.1 Portal Frame Alignment & Dimensional Verification
- Overall frame squareness and diagonals were checked.
- The four-bay roof grid was aligned before glazing.
- The four skylight openings were checked for fit and position.
5.2 Louvered Pergola Integration
The 950 mm louvered pergola section was fitted to the main structure to verify the connection geometry and visual alignment.
5.3 Sliding Door & Hardware Commissioning
Sliding door assemblies were dry-fitted to check roller movement, lock engagement and EPDM gasket contact before packing.
06. Export Packaging & Container Logistics
After factory inspection, the frame members, louvered components and glazed assemblies were protected for international shipment to Qatar.
- Structural components were wrapped with protective foam and film.
- Major assemblies were packed in reinforced plywood export crates.
- Crates were loaded and secured for 40 ft High-Cube container transport to Qatar.
07. On-Site Installation in Qatar
After arrival in Qatar, the prefabricated structure was installed on the poolside terrace using the prepared dimensions and modular connection details.
7.1 Base Column Anchorage & Alignment
The main portal columns were fixed to the prepared pool-deck structure and aligned before roof installation.
7.2 Roof Grid, Glass & Skylight Installation
The roof beams, insulated glass panels and four motorized skylight units were installed within the prepared roof grid.
7.3 Mechanical & Kitchen Fit-Out
The completed pavilion was fitted with split-system air-conditioning, wall controls, a stainless-steel exhaust hood and kitchen equipment.
08. Final Handover & Residential Use
After final sealing, electrical commissioning and cleaning, the pavilion was handed over as a combined poolside lounge, dining area and outdoor kitchen.
- Climate-controlled use: The enclosed pavilion combines insulated glazing with air-conditioning for improved hot-weather comfort.
- Natural ventilation: Four motorized roof skylights allow warm air to be released when outdoor conditions permit.
- Pool connection: Sliding glass walls maintain direct access and views toward the swimming pool.
- Dust-control strategy: Continuous gaskets and enclosed glazing interfaces help reduce airborne dust entry.
- Integrated living: The finished space combines seating, dining and a complete kitchen within one compact pavilion.
09. Application Scenarios
The same pavilion concept can be adapted to other residential and hospitality projects in hot climates where users need a conditioned glass space directly connected to outdoor leisure areas.
- Middle Eastern villa poolside pavilions
- Air-conditioned outdoor kitchens and BBQ rooms
- Resort cabanas and VIP pool lounges
- Garden dining rooms and climate-controlled glass pavilions
